The Watchdog Timer, a hardware monitoring circuit, keeps a close eye on the device’s operational status. If the device malfunctions or crashes, the Watchdog chip, upon not receiving a “heartbeat” signal within a set interval, automatically reboots the device, restoring normal system operation. This mechanism ensures swift self-recovery and continuous online presence in case of faults.
PPP (Point-to-Point Protocol) is used for data packet transmission over serial links. Industrial routers communicate with network operators’ base stations via PPP. Upon detecting a link disconnection, the router automatically attempts to re-establish the connection, ensuring sustained network availability.
